Dear President Obama, Gilad Shalit was kidnapped in Israel on June 25, 2006 by Palestinian terrorists on a cross-border raid from Gaza. He has been held hostage by Hamas ever since. Hamas leaders refuse to allow the Red Cross to visit him and are demanding that Israel release many of the most notorious terrorists held by Israel in exchange for his freedom. Israelis fear for Gilad's life and are willing to pay a heavy price. However, they worry that releasing those who dispatched suicide bombers into cafes and onto buses will encourage future massacres of Israeli civilians. Please exert your influence to make sure that Gilad Shalit is freed as soon as possible in a deal that does not bring about the release of violent terrorists. Sincerely,
