What country do Palestinians prefer as the model for a future Palestinian state?
Israel.
According to recent surveys conducted by the Ramallah- based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza strip view Israeli democracy as the preferred model for a regime that they would like to see applied in a future Palestinian state. Palestinians rank Israeli democracy even higher than other Western democracies such as the US, France and Germany.
All Israelis – Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Druze– enjoy Israel’s vibrant democracy. Alone in the Middle East, Israel offers its citizens freedoms of speech, religion, and press, women’s rights, gay rights, free, open, and contested elections, property rights, and a working justice system.
Source: 66% of the Palestinians give a positive evaluation to the status of democracy and human rights in Israel.
